You will need to complete the Real Estate Associates Program.

 Phase 2 is currently only available on-line. Phase 3 is approximately six weeks long, including several days for writing exams. Overall it will take you just under 3 months to complete from start to finish (if you are diligent about it). You do have 18 months however, to complete the program from start to finish.

Phase 1 - "The Introduction to a Career in Real Estate" is a free online course through RECA .

Phase 2 - The Fundamentals of Real Estate - Through AREA $1500 (at time of print)

Phase 3  - Residential - 7 days $795.00

                 - Commercial - 7 days $795.00

                 - Rural              - 5 days $795.00

All 3 phases of the Real Estate Associates Program must be completed within 18 months in order to obtain a licence.

If you completed high school in another province, contact the department of education in the applicable province and request that an official transcript be sent directly to AREA. Contact information can be found here 

You can have your education papers from your country assessed and put into a Canadian equivalency through the International Qualification Assessment Services "IQAS"  (780) 427-2655.

If you did not complete high school; or if you completed high school outside of Canada and were unable to obtain a certificate from IQAS. Alberta Education provides an alternative through the completion and passing of five General Educational Development (GED) tests. You can do so by contacting Norquest College at (780) 644-6095. If you have passed most of your high school subjects and have completed some Grade 12 subjects, investigate completing your credits before considering the GED.
